a bespoke new-build family home in poole dorset
What the client said
“In a nutshell: don’t go anywhere else. I’ve used several architects previously, and James & Rosie are by a country mile the best I have worked with. In detail: baron & baron were hired by me to re-work a project that had become too complex. They were tasked with a demolish/rebuild project that kept the original concept yet massively simplified it (eg much reduced steel) and enhanced the environmental aspects (ASHP, MVHR, UFH combined with effective insulation) whilst maintaining as much glass as possible. All aspirations achieved, with the minimum of compromise. You won’t find an architect that has such an eye of detail, an intimate knowledge of building regs (so won’t come up with concepts that just won’t work) and a wholesome knowledge of the “building game”. If only contractors were so good...
In addition, b&b designed critical internal aspects of the home—a massively impressive and different staircase. Despite the challenges, James and Rosie were always on hand to resolve issues and ultimately assert their design. This applied to all aspects of the build—they would respond rapidly to any issues to ensure the flow of the build wasn’t interrupted...again, if only contractors were like that...
I am delighted with the outcome of the project, and the little thoughts and touches designed by James and Rosie. Without a shadow of a doubt, the money spent on baron & baron was by far the best value in the entire build.”

design development
we were instructed to take forward a replacement home and refine a previously prepared scheme. working closely with our clients, we developed a well-planned accommodation brief that aligned with their lifestyle priorities while identifying meaningful cost savings. these early design decisions helped ensure the scheme remained financially viable without compromising architectural quality.
planning approval was secured quickly, allowing the project to progress at pace. the technical design stages were fast-tracked, enabling an early site start and smooth transition between the planning and construction phases.
technical delivery
we prepared an extensive technical drawing package that included specifications, construction details, and interior design proposals. this level of detail ensured that both the contractor and structural engineer could work efficiently and with clear technical direction. our collaborative approach across disciplines was essential for maintaining the client’s budget, particularly given the complexities of a full new-build project.
the scheme was delivered across riba stages 0 to 7, demonstrating our ability to guide a project from concept and planning through to technical design, site stages, and completion. more on this process can be found on our services page.
