modern farmhouse for contemporary rural living

this modern, new build farmhouse in rural dorset has been designed as a sensitive and refined response to both the landscape and the client’s specific brief. surrounded by wildflower meadows, mature trees, and open rural views, the home sits within a designated  area of outstanding natural beauty. the project continues the studio’s approach to context-led design outlined on our about page, where the surrounding environment shapes every architectural decision.

design concept

the architectural narrative draws inspiration from traditional agricultural forms, expressed as a collection of contemporary barn-like volumes arranged around an entrance courtyard. this layout subtly separates arrival spaces from the private garden areas, creating a clear sense of place. a sculpted pathway guides you through the landscape toward the farmhouse, introducing glimpses of the surrounding meadows as you approach.

a slender glass link connects the main house to the equestrian stables. this glazed threshold brings light into the circulation spaces and opens views toward the private kitchen garden. the partially enclosed courtyard and sweeping driveway create a calm and cohesive arrival sequence.

living and functionality

the main residence includes four generous bedroom suites, open plan living spaces, substantial utility areas, and an undercroft supercar garage designed to accommodate a classic car collection and workshop. the stables form an integral part of the overall composition, unified through materiality and proportion.
